"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members"

- Coretta Scott King

Creating meaningful change requires deep collaboration across our community.  The Sustainability Internships and Community Resources Department works to connect students, staff, faculty, and off-campus community members in projects working towards the shared vision of creating a more sustainable and equitable future. Our giving opportunities below reflect projects that have been co-created amongst all of these stakeholder groups.

Internships

The Sustainability Internship and Community Resource Department empowers students as change makers. Through the Department, students develop partnerships between community members, campus staff, faculty, and other students to imagine and launch innovative new programs that help our community and campus move towards a more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable world.

Edible Campus Program

Edible Campus Program

The Edible Campus Program (ECP) addresses local food insecurity by repurposing underutilized spaces for sustainable food production, turning waste into food, and engaging students as growers and producers. We train students in practices that address social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainability and help them to reclaim their personal connection to the land and their food.

Greenhouse and Garden Project

First located where the UCSB Thunderdome is today, the UCSB Greenhouse and Garden Project (GHGP) has been in its current location between Harder Stadium and Los Carneros Road since the late 1970s/early 1980s. GHGP provides UCSB students, staff and faculty with an expansive plot based community garden that includes a greenhouse and teaching facilities that are in need of major renovation if it is to continue to serve future generations.
