A great way to get involved in Sustainability on campus is to volunteer with a campus committee or student club.
The University of California’s first systemwide policy to related to sustainability was imagined, advocated for, and drafted by students activists. One of the most instrumental student groups in this work was the Associated Students Environmental Affairs Board. Student leaders worked closely with staff and faculty across the UC system to accomplish this. Learn what committees are taking this work the next step and how you can get involved below!
Some clubs that our department directly support include:
Grant Writing Club
This is a group of students who get together to draft grants and philanthropic outreach materials for sustainability related projects. Through this club students can receive training and mentorship on grant writing, build their portfolio of grants, and help to support innovative programs working to make UCSB a more sustainable community.
Please email Katie Maynard kcmaynard@ucsb.edu if you are interested in getting involved.
Take Back the Tap
Take Back the Tap is an initiative that aims to highlight tap water as a resource that is safe and reliable for all UCSB students, faculty, staff, and our community. We believe that water is right and something that should be accessible and affordable to all.
Please email Bhavya Uniyal uniyal@ucsb.edu if you are interested in getting involved. More information is available on the Take Back the Tap Page.

Committees Throughout Campus
Campus Committees
Campus committees work on a wide variety of different topics and are instrumental in setting and updating key campus policies and programs. Most campus committees, including those on sustainability, include student, staff, and faculty representatives. You can read about committees related to campus sustainability here: https://www.sustainability.ucsb.edu/about-us/committees. We also recommend that you visit the Associated Students Committee on Committees website. This is a group within AS charged with placing students on campus committees.
Through here you can learn about what student positions are currently open: https://coc.as.ucsb.edu/
