What’s the Commute Reset Challenge?
This pilot program encourages faculty, staff, and students to try alternative transportation. For students to be eligible for the challenge, they must live more than 2 miles from campus. Participants have the chance to earn a $60 gift card plus prizes from local businesses.

By taking part in this program, you will be able to earn rewards while getting assistance from transportation specialists to help you with commuting. Throughout the quarter, there will be workshops available that will cover a variety of topics from bike repair, how to talk to supervisors to move schedules around transportation times, and connecting with other commuters who are trying to make the shift too.

Participants will be asked to change their commuting methods from a single-occupancy vehicle to an alternative method at least 2 times a week for one academic quarter (Fall Quarter 2025). Alternative transportation methods could include: biking, bus, train, or joining a carpool/vanpool. Please note that although teleworking and driving low-emission vehicles are great ways to reduce your environmental impact, we are not including these in this competition due to the specific focus of this project.

To take part in this challenge, you must:

  • Be a UCSB employee or registered student during the competition

  • Must hold a UCSB parking pass for an individual (not a carpool pass) in Spring 2025 or Summer 2025

This is a great opportunity to try a new commuting method, reduce your environmental footprint, and earn rewards while doing it!
