The Edible Campus Program offers workshops on a variety of topics including but not limited to how to grow your own food affordably, sustainable gardening and food production, urban gardening and the power of gardens to bring communities together, mindfulness in the garden, coastal friendly garden practices and more. The majority of our curriculum is developed and presented by college student interns. We can offer curriculum to all ages. We frequently present at an early childhood education center, to college students, in family centered spaces, and to general public audiences. To attend one of our workshops, please visit the events page or sign up for our newsletters to learn about future programs.
Coastal Ecosystem Friendly Gardening
With a grant from the Associated Students Coastal Fund, the Edible Campus Program is developing a series of workshops on gardening practices that help us grow produce for our community while protecting the ecosystem that we are a part of. Workshops cover topics such as drought friendly gardening, reducing microplastics in the garden, reducing toxins and run-off in the garden, how to build habitats for birds of prey, and tours of ecosystems surrounding the gardens.
Nature Wellbeing Program
The Nature Wellbeing Program aims to help our community learn and implement preventative mental health practices through spending time with and connecting to the land and ecosystem. We address topics such as (but not limited to) anxiety, processing emotions, self-esteem, working through overwhelm, self-compassion, isolation, loneliness, learning to stay present, sense of belonging, and mind and body awareness. We encourage our participants to practice self-care and community-care (where communities of people come together to support each other in their healing.
General Education Program
In addition to the targeted programs mentioned above, the Edible Campus Program offers workshops on a wide variety of topics as part of our core offerings. We focus on demystifying gardening and showing that anybody can grow their own food with just a little guidance and some basic supplies. Our workshops highlight easy ways to get started with gardening and affordable approaches. We also highlight ways to garden in ways that gives back to the ecosystem and helps ensure your garden continues to flourish. Our instructors also offer workshops on the role of neighborhood gardens in bringing communities together, the history of urban agriculture, local foodsheds, and other broader discussion based curriculum.
